My Fall Fashion Update

It is finally fall! I really am dying to wear scarves and boots and tights… but here in California it’s still a scorching 80 degrees outside. My office is air-conditioned, but I can’t bare the idea of tights in that kind of heat. So here you see outfits that express the slow transition between summer and fall.

My fashion includes neutral elements combined with classic closet staples, stripes, and lots of black white and gray with a few color pops. I like being consistent and I do not like looking girly. I prefer wearing basic elements and adding color and character through an accessory, which is often something as basic as lipstick. I also ride a scooter and must be mindful of what I can wear while I ride. My leather jacket is a perfect fit, and my skirts are tight so they will not blow in the wind and cause drag.

Here is a small gallery of some outfits I have worn. Photos taken by me with an iPhone 4, posed in front of a large mirror in my room. If only I had a better camera and someone to help me take nicer photos… Sigh, this will do for now.

Here you see a hat, an ear cuff, and a headband… The headband is my signature piece, I love headbands because they give character to my rather plain ensembles.

Once again, I apologize these aren’t better quality, the dream is in the making. You can help me achieve my dream of high quality photo shoots to share with my followers by subscribing to this blog, leaving comments below, and connecting with me… 😉

Festival Style | Fashion Update

Concert Style

Oh how I wish I went to one of the real summer festivals… I always find myself in the wrong place at the wrong time. Nevertheless I can still treat my daily life like a festival, and this weekend I happened to go to an awesome show. The National live at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery! (read more about it in my last post here)

Here I am wearing

  • A long black shirt, vans us open 2013 (represent!)
  • black sheer tights, target
  • black leather boots, for romping and stomping 😉
  • black felt hat, cottonon
  • denim vest, upcycled

most importantly:

  • tote bag full of wine, beer, cheese, and crackers!

This outdoor venue is the perfect kind, the one that allows you to pack your own blankets and picnics and refreshments. They simply ask we clean up after ourselves and don’t bring in any hard liquor. As a lover of wine this was just fine. For those of you that don’t know, Matt Berninger of The National loves wine. It’s basically all he sings about – no joke. The picnic essentials prepared us for a great evening, and the show was absolutely spectacular.

Who What Wear – With The National | Los Angeles

Now I only think about Los Angeles when the sun kicks out (Pink Rabbits | The National)

Lucky for us the sun did kick out, just on time as we were in the city celebrating our favorite band’s movie preview! Here is a quick fix of what Caitlyn and I wore to the Mistaken For Strangers screening in Los Angeles.

City City Happy Hour

Here I am in my “Loose Lips Sink Ships” t-shirt, inspired by The National‘s song Cherry Tree. This shirt is fitting because Mistaken For Strangers is a movie about The National, and Cherry Tree is such a great song, and Loose Lips Sink Ships is such a great saying. In this shirt I can do no wrong.  I’m also wearing a black blazer, denim shorts (cause it’s summer!) and suede booties.

Caitlyn is wearing her favorite polka dot skirt, also with booties and a tank top. A cute get up for any long summers day of sight seeing and obsessing over our favorite band.

To make this shirt more comfortable I cut the sleeves off.  The art of cutting sleeves, as seen in my previous post “Rock Your Style” is in exposing the right amount of skin.  If you just clipped your shirt down the sides, you would expose too much skin in the front, and not enough in the back. That is why I first cut off the sleeves along the stitch line, then I turn the shirt around and trim out the back, dipping lower and towards the center and work my way up. Once you have the shirt on you can stretch out the opening with your thumbs to give it a natural looking finish.  And remember, this is your shirt – Rock it however you want!

10 Cool All Black Outfits

Lately I’ve been obsessed with Pinterest. It’s a perfect excuse to gather all the things you love in one place without having to buy them. (Until one fateful day where maybe you can!) Feel free to follow my style, design, food, etc.

Being a very organized person, I enjoy being able to find something I like and categorize it in a public file that myself and others can always go back and make reference to. Being a habitual shopper, I also enjoy Pinterest as a place to store my “wants & needs”, so I can go back and compare them. Sometimes just knowing its presence exists on my Pinterest is enough and I do not need to purchase it.

keep it classy

Now that you know the inner workings of my brain, I would like to display 10 of my favorite pieces, these are from my board Black is Black These are beautiful black clothes that I will probably never have, but nothing is stopping me from pinning them! See bottom of page for sources.

Happy Independence day Y’all!  Today is my favorite holiday.

I love it because: It is a nationwide holiday where we all go outside, ride bikes, swim, barbecue, eat, drink, be merry, celebrate our country, and at the end of the day we watch fireworks or set off our own.

I also love it because unlike other national holidays:  There is no stressful build up, no extreme forms of gift giving, no one has to feel excluded because the parties are often open invite, if you want to dress up- red white and blue/stars and stripes is super easy because these are naturally closet staples, and the food is usually potluck style so you just have to bring the one thing you’re good at and know people will like it.

I live in Huntington Beach, Surf City USA.  One of the best places to celebrate for good reason. They close off Pacific Coast Highway and have a 5k run, followed by a parade.  Festivities occur downtown all day, the streets become covered in bikes and lemonade stands, and the day ends with a firework show over the famous Huntington Beach Pier. Admission is free, most people arrive on bike, and a large majority of the city ends up attending so you are guaranteed to run into old friends.

I spent my day doing the above, sharing the day with friends and family, remembering that we live in a great place, and are part of a great country.

My good friend Lauren dressed up like our flag and I was obsessed with how adorable she looked, let’s call it The American Flag Undone – her shirt being the stripes and her baseball cap being the stars. We both sported the American favorite: denim shorts and white tennies. I love my chuck taylors and wear them any chance I get. While Lauren’s bold outfit was very statement making, I went a little more subtle and tied up an American flag handkerchief in my hair.  I think she wore it better.

A few more pictures of our day in Surf City. America, we salute thee!
