Hey, did you know I love Peanut Butter?
I especially love really really Good Natural Peanut Butter.
That’s why I came up with this super delicious healthy natural crunchy peanut butter recipe, so you can make your own fun really good flavored peanut butter too. I’m not talking about ordinary peanut butter. I’m talking about all natural chia seed honey peanut butter. It’s made from all natural organic ingredients. It’s very good for you, and it’s very easy to make.
If you want to learn how to actually make peanut butter click here for Alton Brown’s own recipe.
What I’m about to teach you is more of a peanut butter and-then-some recipe. But it’s still healthy! Yay!
BTW – If you want to learn more about peanut butter, what makes it healthy or not, and where it originated, I highly recommend listening to the “Stuff You Missed In History Class” Podcast about Peanut Butter – you can give it a listen here.
BTW² – This podcast is totally great. If you like listening to smart chicks talk about interesting things while you commute to work, give it a go!)) It’s where I learned that peanut butter used to just be ground peanuts and salt. Nothing added!
Personally, I’ve been buying the cheap natural kind… basically, the bottle of Jiff that says “natural” on it. Then my friend introduced me to this one peanut butter that Trader Joe’s carries that had chia seeds in it. CHIA SEEDS? AMAZING! Here’s a link to it.
But why do I have to wait to go all the way to Trader Joe’s to get myself one of these delicious jars of peanut butter? Why can’t I just make it myself!
(P.S. I live in DTLA and the nearest Trader Joe’s is 30 minutes away, don’t you think there’s something wrong with that!?!? Bring Trader Joe’s Downtown!!!! We don’t need no Whole Foods, we need a TJ’s!)
So I was shopping at my local Food4Less, and that’s when I saw it…
All-Natural All-Peanut, Peanut Butter. Nothing but peanuts and salt. No sugar, no fancy “hydrogenated oils“, just some good old fashion NaCl. It was on sale, and it was from an organic farm. Awesome.
Guess what was on sale right next to it? Organic Chia seeds!!
Perfect!!!
BTW – The chia seeds make an excellent crunch. This makes the peanut butter great for those who like crunchy peanut butter. It’s also a good compromise for those who like creamy, because the chia seeds have a lighter crunch – they’re more of a rice-krispies consistency. So picky eater may not mind this extra crunch. They also won’t get stuck in your molars like the chunks of peanut butter are known to do.
So I bought the peanut butter and chia seeds, brought them home, and did the following:
-
Stir peanut butter until combined (if the oils have separated)
-
Add a scoop of chia seeds
-
Add a dollop of honey
-
Add flax if you have any – because that makes it more like the TJ’s kind
-
Mix until even
-
Add more of the fun stuff until you like how it looks
-
Refrigerate
-
Eat with everything
Done.
That’s it.
Peanut Butter yay!
